There was quite a bit in the book that was over my head regarding high finance and Wall Street jargon. It's not quite convincing, but interesting nevertheless.
Because the US economy had binged on credit and leveraged itself to the brink — consumption could no longer drive US growth. It was totally outside my area of understanding, but after reading the book, I learned a lot about the process and influence of a currency in this world. Counter cyclical spending is important. Eventually, the world wakes up to this reality and moves to the trade war stage.

While many parts were very interesting, this is not a light read.
While the outcome of the new currency war is not yet certain, some version of the worst-case scenario is almost inevitable if U. Rickards untangles the web of failed paradigms, wishful thinking, and arrogance driving current public policy and points the way toward a more informed and effective course of action.
This book works as a general overview but otherwise extremely simplistic in both the explanations of a handful of historic events and what is going on.
The positives of the book are in the easy to understand and fluid descriptions of events of the thirties and the Rickarde. Hardcoverpages.
It is a good intro to a concept rarely discussed; that is world monetary history in terms of the 'war-like' interaction of nations using currency devaluations to gain an upper hand.
The topic is pretty deep, but even with no formal background in economics like me vurrency, the book is readable and the author does a good job of explaining the issues.
